HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — As Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters this weekend, star Tom Holland is pulling back the curtain on the multiversal editing process, revealing that the creative team once assembled a version of the film that the cast absolutely detested.

A disconcerting Creative Detour

The Peter Parker actor noted that he and his co-stars, including Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, have “seen loads of different cuts” of the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. However, one particular iteration stood out for all the wrong reasons. “What’s really interesting is, we’ve seen loads of different cuts of this movie, and one of the cuts was, they took all of the notes from all of the random people that saw the film, and they changed the movie,” Holland explained in a recent interview. “And then, we watched it and we hated it.”

Holland elaborated that this erroneous version “totally didn’t work.” While it ostensibly addressed the feedback from test audiences, it fundamentally betrayed the artistic vision of the filmmakers. “It wasn’t quite what we wanted as the creatives,” he confessed. “But they learned lessons from that experience. So, a movie can change in a thousand different ways in the edit room.”
