YouTube Launches UK Shopping Affiliate Programme with M&S, NEXT and Boots

In a momentous expansion of social commerce, YouTube has officially launched its Shopping Affiliate Programme in the United Kingdom, partnering with major high-street retailers including Marks & Spencer, NEXT, Debenhams, and Boots.
Announced on July 23, 2026, this pioneering initiative allows eligible creators to tag products directly within their videos, Shorts, and livestreams. Viewers can seamlessly explore these items and complete purchases on the retailer’s website without ever leaving the content, creating a remarkably frictionless shopping experience.
Lowered Thresholds and Expanded Access
In a strategic move to democratize creator monetization, YouTube has lowered the subscriber threshold for the programme from 1,000 to just 500. This egalitarian adjustment ensures that a wider spectrum of emerging creators can participate, provided they are members of the YouTube Partner Program and do not produce content designated as "made for children."
Creators can earn commission on qualifying purchases, establishing a vital secondary revenue stream alongside traditional advertising income. Commission rates and attribution windows are dictated by individual retailers, with payments processed through AdSense typically 60 to 120 days post-purchase to accommodate standard return policies.
Official Social Media Announcement
Alison Lomax (MD YouTube UK and Ireland) on LinkedIn:
"Today we're launching the shopping affiliate program with big UK retailers like M&S, Boots and Wayfair already on board. YouTube is already the #1 platform for shopping inspiration, and this makes it easier than ever for creators to earn."
AI-Assisted Tagging and Future Expansions
To further streamline the creator workflow, the programme introduces AI-assisted auto-tagging and expanded product catalogues. YouTube data indicates that adding product tags directly to videos can drive up to 50% more clicks compared to traditional description links, capitalizing on the surge in shopping-related content consumption.
Alison Lomax, YouTube Managing Director in the UK, emphasized that creators remain at the heart of the platform's ecosystem. As the creator economy continues its proliferation, this rollout signifies YouTube's aggressive commitment to providing sustainable, diversified revenue streams, firmly positioning the platform as a dominant force in the evolving landscape of digital retail.
