In a poignant conclusion to a Hall of Fame career, Errol Spence Jr. hung up his gloves Saturday night after suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Australia's Tim Tszyu at the Afterpay Arena in Sydney Olympic Park.

The 36-year-old former unified welterweight champion forlornly announced his retirement following the lopsided three-judge scorecard (118-110, 117-111, 117-111) that favored the son of boxing legend Kostya Tszyu.

Spence, who had not competed since his cessation loss to Terence Crawford in 2023, made a courageous two-division jump to 160-pound middleweight for this bout. The decision proved catastrophic as the three-year ring rust proved insurmountable against the fresher, younger Tszyu (28-3, 18 KOs).

A Night of Mixed Emotions

The event, however, was not without its contretemps. Stephen Fulton and Liam Wilson were scheduled to clash in the co-feature, but the bout was abrogated after Fulton egregiously missed the 133-pound catchweight limit by 6.5 pounds.
